Job Summary

Bartlett Milling Company is seeking an experienced animal feed business manager to lead local operations and support Bartlett’s feed business. The function of the Branch Manager includes managing all aspects of branch operations, administrative functions, sales and building relationships with customers. The position is an excellent opportunity for a manager to advance in the feed industry. The position requires a well-rounded business leader with demonstrable success in the feed industry.

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary is competitive for the position, based on education level and experience.

Required Education and Experience

  • Four-year degree preferred. A two-year Associate Degree in a business-related field will be considered.
  • Self-motivation and an innate desire to achieve success and motivate others.
  • Basic knowledge of livestock (animal agriculture) and understanding business principles.
  • Enjoy interacting with people and be able to communicate effectively.
  • Strong leadership ability and experience managing personnel.
  • Proven sales experience.
  • Excellent written and communication skills: strong organizational and time management abilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage inbound, outbound, product turns, product returns of perishable animal nutrition products and associated distribution efficiently.
  • Manage warehouse employees, company drivers, and oversee maintenance and repair of equipment.
  • Supervise the customer service department; consisting of order entry, billings, receivables, scheduling of routes, customer relations and problem-solving.
  • Coach and mentor sales people.
  • Promote excellent customer satisfaction: accurate and timely delivery of products, as ordered by the customer.
  • Relate to and interact with customers and understand their businesses and operational needs.
  • Build strong working knowledge of vendors and suppliers, their products and programs.
  • Understand nutritional product guidelines for broad animal species (e.g., cattle, poultry, pet, horse).
  • Know competitive marketplace including competitors, product offerings, and business practices.
  • Functional computer system applications (processing of orders, inventory, accounts receivables, sales and customer data).
  • Product pricing: establish and monitor margins, monthly review of P&L statement.
  • Oversee account receivables; direct sales people and customer service in collections.
  • Problem solving, both internally and externally.
  • Budgeting and support strategic planning to meet profit objectives.
  • Communicate and interact with corporate office (Kansas City), support and supervise branch staff.
  • Maintain regulatory requirements and support implementation of new procedures.
  • A candidate must demonstrate a highly-disciplined approach to the described management duties.

Physical Demands and Requirements

This job is not physically strenuous, but customer facilities may present different physical demands from time to time. You will need the ability to lift, push and pull up to 25 pounds and occasionally more. This job may require the ability to ascend/descend stairs.

This job requires the ability to read and comprehend written and oral operational and safety instructions and related rules, policies and memos, and to communicate clearly with personnel at all levels and customers.

It is important to have vision that permits close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The ability to identify and distinguishcolors is also important.

Working Environment

This job is primarily indoors, but may include some outdoor work in all types of weather and temperature environments from time to time.
