Job Summary

Bartlett Milling Company is seeking a dedicated and hardworking individual to be the Plant Manager of our state-of-the-art flour mill in Wilson's Mills, NC. The individual will have hands-on involvement in all aspects of operating the flour mill, including grain receiving and cleaning, flour milling, maintenance, quality control, scheduling and administration. The individual will be expected to work with the retiring plant manager in implementing and monitoring all company programs; including safety and quality. Duties would also include having intimate knowledge of every function in the operation.

The ideal candidate should have a four year degree in Milling Science, Ag Mechanization or similar degree or have a proven track record in mill management. The individual should demonstrate excellent leadership skills as well as possess good communication skills. Mechanical aptitude, detail orientation and computer skills are a must. Experience with safety, maintenance and quality control programs would be beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Perform job tasks in a safe manner in compliance with Bartlett’s programs and procedures.
  • Supervision of flour mill and cleaning house operational activities.
  • Maintain flour production within the specifications for the type of flour being produced.
  • Perform and oversee regular inspection of the mill.
  • Supervise and oversee taking extractions according to company procedures. All extracts must be documented according to company procedures.
  • Supervise and oversee inspection of middling rolls to ensure proper grind according to established procedures.
  • Perform timed weigh-off and calculations of production rates according to established procedures.
  • Supervise and oversee maintenance of milling equipment and machinery in a proactive, best practices manner according to company procedures.
  • Supervise and oversee filling and/or transferring flour and feed products to the correct bins.
  • Ensure GMP practices and policies are strictly adhered to and followed.
  • Ensure all products meet customer specifications and requirements.
  • Foster communications and task hand-offs between shifts to ensure that the plant operates in a best practices manner.
  • Perform root cause analysis to identify problems.
  • Oversee transportation department and associated delivery services.
  • Must be knowledgeable of all federal, state and local laboratory, food safety and health regulations.
  • Work with internal staff to ensure all regulatory requirements are met.
  • Ensure all personnel are properly trained and that company protocols are fully implemented and followed.
  • Ensure that all program documentation, support systems and paperwork is systematically completed in a best practices manner.
  • Ensure that BRC and HAACP programs are fully implemented and that plant operations are conducted according to said plans.
  • Effectively communicate regulatory requirements to all levels within the organization.
  • Oversee and administer company procedures, policies and protocols.

Required Education and Experience

  • Four-year degree in Milling Science or related disciple, and 3+ years’ work-experience.
  • Or, seven plus (7+) years of progressive milling experience.
  • Must have a strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Experience with agriculture, farm equipment or milling is preferred.

Physical Demands and Requirements

  • This job can be physically strenuous (demanding) from time to time, and a successful candidate will be expected to be able to work in tight and confined spaces, walk, climb, bend, kneel, lift, grip, grasp, push and pull various tools and equipment. This job may require the ability to ride a belt man lift and occasionally work at significant heights, with requisite balance and equilibrium. The job requires the ability to frequently lift, push and pull up to 50 pounds and occasionally more. This job requires the ability to ascend/descend ladders.
  • This job requires wearing personal protective equipment, including hardhats, gloves, safety glasses, safety shoes, and respiratory protection and ear protection as appropriate.
  • This job requires the ability to read and comprehend written and oral operational and safety instructions and related rules, policies and memos, and to communicate clearly with co-workers and supervisors.
  • It is important to have vision that permits close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The ability to identify and distingush colors is also important. You also need the ability to detect odors and the ability to understand and discern safety warning systems.

Working Environment

  • This is a physical job that includes both indoor and outdoor work in all types of weather and temperature environments. This job may include working at heights and in confined spaces. It may be noisy and dusty at times.
