These are generally 8 hour shifts for approximately threemonths in the summer.

Job Summary

Bartlett Grain Company is seeking dedicated, hard-working individuals who are looking for a chance to prove they can learn new tasks and advance. These tasks include, but are not limited to:purchasing farm products (wheat, corn and/or soybeans) for further processing or resale, building relationships with both internal and external customers, understanding truck and rail freight spreads and their impact on market basis values, applying the company’s risk management policies to your everyday work and understanding market valuations of commodities. During the Grain Merchandising Internship program, you will be exposed to all facets of the grain merchandising group from elevator terminals to corporate. The goal is to help you learn more about merchandising and Bartlett Grain with the potential to lead to full-time jobs within the company after your graduation.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary is competitive for the position, based on prior education level and experience with opportunities for advancement.

In keeping with Bartlett’s commitment to the value of education, we offer the Bartlett Educational Assistance Plan. Through B.E.A.P. you can earn $2 tax-free for every hour you work to reimburse tuition expenses. This is in addition to a competitive salary. The tuition for classes that you take during the semester you work for Bartlett or the semester following your work at Bartlett are eligible. If you work at least 160 hours, successfully complete your coursework the following semester. (C or better) and send us proof of payment for tuition enrollment and a grade report after the semester, we’ll pay you the lesser of $2.00 tax-free for every hour worked or the tuition you paid.

Not only will you receive hands on experience in your field, but also a way to help pay for school with no further commitment to the company.

Required Education and Experience

Students studying in agriculture business disciplines preferred.

Must have proven project and management skills. Must be highly motivated and have the ability to work in a team environment.

Must be proficient with MS Office programs. Experience with agriculture is preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assist in the purchase, for further processing or for resale, farm products/commodities such as - but not limited to - wheat, corn, sorghum and/or soybeans.

Learn how to negotiate contracts with customers for the purchase and sale of farm products and/or commodities.

Provide courteous and responsive customer service via face-to-face meetings and phone conversations.

Contact current and potential customers on a consistent basis to build and maintain business relationships.

Learn about how we monitor our company commodities position statements and how we utilize our risk management techniques and hedging to protect Bartlett Grain against potential market losses, applying those lessons to your day-to-day activities.

Assist in arranging for rail and truck logistics through our Transportation Department and assist in related transportation matters, storage, resale and/or processing of purchased products.

Maintain computer records of business transactions and product inventories, reporting data to superiors, companies or government agencies as necessary.

Learn about how to interpret government and industry reports and analyze markets, using this information to make decisions regarding the purchase and/or sale of commodities.

Physical Demands and Requirements

You may have to wear personal protective equipment, including hardhats, gloves and safety glasses during elevator or farm visits.

This job requires the ability to read and comprehend written and oral operational and safety instructions and related rules, policies and memos, and to communicate clearly with your co-workers and supervisors.

You must have reliable transportation to be available for work 24/7.

Working Environment

Office environment in a controlled atmosphere building with occasional trips out to grain elevators, customers and/or cropland.

All employees shall be subject to drug testing and background checks.
